Students: Start building your skills with the GitHub Foundations certification

GitHub knows it’s critical for students to be able to easily learn new skills, test new workflows, and gain qualifications. However, students often have to do this on a limited budget while being able to focus on their studies. That’s why we launched the Student Developer Pack 10 years ago, to ensure the world’s future developers can collaborate, experiment, and make meaningful use of the industry-standard products and tools offered by GitHub and our educational partners.

Today we’re adding to that growing list of offerings with the The GitHub Foundations certification exam is free for all verified students! Now students have the opportunity to test their skills in using GitHub for version control, collaboration, workflow automation, and core GitHub functionality, with evidence to back it up.

GitHub Foundations certification

The GitHub basics The certification program is designed to introduce learners to new fundamental concepts and products on the GitHub platform. You’ll learn how to use Git and explore some of GitHub’s core features, such as: B. Repository management, commits, branching, merging and project management. You’ll also learn how to contribute to open source projects on GitHub and use Markdown effectively. If you’re a student or have one in your life, here’s how to get started.

Step 1: Get verified

If you are a student aged 13 or over and enrolled in a degree or diploma course, the GitHub Student Developer Pack is perfect for you. Get verified as a student on GitHub by clicking here Here fill out an application. When applying, you must provide proof of current enrollment. The application process is individually tailored and the application interface and emails will guide you on the best next steps for approval. Step 2: Prepare for your exam

The GitHub Foundations exam focuses on the fundamental topics and concepts of collaborating, contributing, and working on GitHub. This exam covers collaboration, GitHub products, Git basics, and working in GitHub repositories. If you feel like you’re ready to go straight to the exam, just click on the Foundation Certification tile.

Step 3: Take the exam.

Register for the exam via our testing service provider PSI. There you can choose View available tests and then select the GitHub Foundations exam to complete the purchase. The voucher is automatically redeemed during the payment process.

Please note the following:

• The GitHub Foundations exam is unproctored. This means you can take the exam at any time without being proctored by a live examiner. There is no need to set a specific time or use video recording software during the exam. The unproctored exam is available 24/7, so you can take it whenever is most convenient for you.
• After registering, you have 60 days to take the exam. When you register for the exam on our website, your exam eligibility will be activated.
• If you are unable to take the exam within this 60 day window, you may cancel the exam without penalty. If you do not cancel your exam, the voucher will expire. When registering, make sure you are prepared for the exam by reading the preparation materials in advance.
