Smashing Hour With Heydon Pickering

I caught up with Heydon Pickering on the latest episode of Smashing Hour. Full transparency: I was incredibly nervous. I admired it Heydon’s work This is the first time we’ve met in years, even though we run in similar circles. You know how you build up some things in your head and kind of freak yourself out? Yes, that.

Heydon is just a gentleman and, damnit, easy to talk to. As with every Smashing Hour, there is no script, no agenda, nothing. We get into the depths of accessibility testing and documentation – or lack thereof – before moving on to the things that really interest him and are particularly excited about today: Styling sound. Dude pulled out a demo and walked me (and everyone else) through the basics of the Web Audio API and how he uses it to visualize sounds in tons of groovy ways that I now somehow want to hook up to my turntable.
